Solar Sid Calculator — What Will It Generate & Save?
Upload your ESB Networks HDF .csv — or enter annual usage if no smart meter. 460W panels, max 20, 3 roofs. Battery 5/10/15kWh. All client-side, file never leaves your device.
💛 From private group Solar Works in Ireland (8.7K members) — we reject 80% of join requests to keep spam & spammers out. Calculator built using real bills, systems in use & lots of coffee. Results are planning estimates rather than a quotation; a complete year of suitable data gives the best comparison.
1️⃣ Your Electricity Usage
Existing-solar HDFs are deliberately blocked: a smart meter records only grid import/export, so it cannot recover the total household load needed to compare a new solar-and-battery system. Use a pre-solar HDF, manual annual usage, or a dedicated battery-retrofit model.
Used to estimate profile: 40% day, 60% evening. For accurate battery results, use HDF if you can.
2️⃣ Location — 32 Counties
Base: 916 kWh per kWp per year south-facing, central (conservative real-world Irish). County factor x Direction factor = final yield.
Set the times and rates from your own tariff. This is a simplified two-rate estimate; for a three-band tariff, use representative day/night rates or assess the supplier bill separately.
EV charging uses the selected charger power. It fills the cheap window first and moves any remainder to the following slots. Leave unticked when the annual usage or HDF already includes the EV.
Moves evening demand only into the next complete selected cheap window; it is never moved backward in time.
3️⃣ Your 3 Roofs — Fixed 460W Panels, Max 20 Total
Panels remaining: 20 / Total: 0 — 0.0 kWp
Directions: South=100%, East/West=85%, North=70% of yield. If you pick 10 South + 5 West, Roof 3 max becomes 5 automatically.
Model: usable capacity shown above, 90% round-trip efficiency, 3.68kW charge/discharge power by default. Excess solar charges the battery and later covers household demand. No grid charging or forced export.

Approx. Solar + Battery Savings is the whole system saving, not the battery saving alone. Battery Value is the extra saving versus no battery. Extra vs Previous shows whether paying for the next battery size adds meaningful value.

Battery Size — Diminishing Returns (Annual)
The line shows the battery's added bill saving compared with no battery. A flattening line means the larger battery has little additional solar energy or household demand available to use.
